These are different mechanisms and should be named precisely. One is a provider-side privacy failure. The other is a discoverability problem built on top of a sharing feature. But for organizations, they land in the same place: the transcript is not under enterprise control in the way staff often assume.

The control model has to assume link sharing and index exposure
The OpenAI example shows why AI chat is inherently insecure in practice. People interpret it as a private workspace because it feels ephemeral and conversational. The actual system is neither. It stores artifacts, supports sharing, and may expose pieces of state through bugs, product changes, or downstream discoverability. The user sees one conversation. The organization is creating a data object inside a third-party environment with its own retention and access model.
That is what makes public sharing especially dangerous. The exposure does not need to look like a classical breach to become an enterprise problem. If staff create link-based artifacts that later become easier to retrieve than they understood, the organization still has a disclosure event. The right control model is not "ban ChatGPT" but "govern what can be shared, who can share it, and how quickly it can be found again."
